Most tips are just common sense, and should be used in any dating situation. The most important ones are to meet in a safe, public place, and make sure you’re not feeling pressured.

Members rate other members in the system. Some of your peers will have ratings that are very different than yours, while others will have ratings that are quite similar. The more similar their ratings are to yours, the higher the correlation (and the weight).

The ratings of all other members in the system are then "collaboratively filtered" to produce a Virtual Rating (predicted rating) for you. This Virtual Rating () predicts what you would rate each member before you actually rate them. The more members you rate, the more accurate the predictions become for you.

After you have rated the minimum number of profiles (20), you can visit the my matches page, which shows you a list of the top personal ads you are likely to be interested in. If you are a busy person and don't have time to sift through hundreds of random profiles that are at best sorted by superficial criteria, then this feature alone can improve the quality of your online dating experience tenfold.

Even better. You can easily do this on Reciprodate, and it's even more entertaining because you actually get to rate the personal ads. Plus, every time you view and rate a profile, the accuracy of the system increases for you.

Just as the system is able to predict your ratings, it is able to predict the ratings of everyone else as well. From the my matches page, you can view a list of the people who have the highest Virtual Ratings for you.

Nobody in the system matched your search criteria. Try broadening your search by entering fewer criteria. We suggest a maximum of 3-5 category entries.

- Ratings are on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being "high").

- You may rate members based on any criteria you choose (see exception below). As more of your peers enter the system and submit ratings, there will be more people that rate others based on the same criteria that you choose.

- You could rate on physical attraction only (photo), non-physical attraction only (personality profile), or a holistic combination of both. You could rate on whether or not you would want to date a given person, or on whether you would be interested in meeting them as a friend, or on whether you would want to chat with them online, etc. As long as there are enough other members in the system rating along similar criteria as yourself, your matches should exhibit a high level of accuracy.

- If you choose fairly common criteria that are not obscure or overly specific, the system will become highly accurate for you more quickly.

- Whichever criteria you choose, stay consistent. If you begin to waver too much between different sets of criteria, it could take an extremely long time for your matches to form an acceptable level of accuracy (or they may never even become accurate at all).

- You may always go back and re-rate anyone you've previously rated.

- We strongly suggest you do NOT rate anyone based on their location or proximity to you. Doing so will make the system inaccurate for you for a much longer period of time. You can always filter your matches later based on location or any number of other preset criteria (this functionality should be available very shortly).

Unlike many "rating" websites that are out there, we do not show users what their average rating is, or what other users specifically rated them. The system is designed to facilitate the most honest and unadulterated ratings that people can provide, in order to give you the most accurate matches and recommendations. Letting people view what other people rated them would not be conducive to this core process of the system.

You can, however, still see a list of the people who either rated you highly, or are predicted to rate you highly by our "Reciprocal Collaborative Filtering" system, on the "my matches" page. This information is much more valuable than just an average rating, because it tells you which people find you interesting or attractive.

The image display area is 320X320 pixels. Images that are larger than this are automatically shrunk down. For best results, use a third-party image software program to shrink your image(s) down to this size before submitting.

Guidelines for Photo Submission

Go into the "my profile" page and click on "Edit Profile".

You may suspend your profile on the "my profile" screen by simply clicking on "Suspend Profile". Suspended profiles will not show up in the main rating or matching pools.

No, there is no "mailbox" associated with the site. All messages sent to you will go directly to the email address you provided when you signed up. You may change this email address at any time by selecting "Change Email" on the "my profile" screen. Incidently, your email address remains completely hidden and private to all- no Reciprodate members can find out your email address unless you personally give it to them.

To reply to an email, you MUST click on the "Reply" link that is located at the bottom of your email. Do not click the "Reply" button on your email program- this will NOT work.

You can stop someone from emailing you by going to their profile and clicking on "block this user". To manage your blocked users, go to the MyProfile page and click on Blocked Users.
